World War II munitions found near Tesla’s Berlin factory

Ana sayfa / News

A surprise discovery was made around Tesla’s giant factory in Berlin! World War II ammunition has been unearthed in search efforts since June. Brandenburg state authorities announced that an 86-hectare area close to the factory has been scanned and that 1,578 pieces of ammunition have been found to date.

These include two large unexploded bombs weighing 250 kilograms. These bombs were safely disposed of, but the clean-up work is not yet complete; several more hectares of land still need to be combed.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s Berlin factory is preparing for new expansion projects as the surrounding area is cleared of munitions. The company plans to add new buildings and a freight terminal to the area. However, the areas planned for expansion are among those that were heavily bombed during World War II.

The possibility of unexploded ordnance could therefore jeopardize Tesla’s expansion plans. Although cleanup efforts are progressing rapidly, the situation in the area is slowing things down at times. Residents of Grünheide and environmental groups are also opposed to the factory’s expansion.

The groups, who argue that the area is both environmentally and historically sensitive, are concerned that the expansion plans will harm the environment. However, the company accelerated its projects after receiving the necessary permits from the local government in May.

It is a matter of curiosity how the company’s projects will take shape in light of these developments. Historical ruins and environmental sensitivities in the region where the factory is located could pose a significant obstacle to Tesla’s growth goals.
